Job Summary

Our Client seeks a highly motivated and experienced Accounting professional with Life Insurance or Annuity expertise to join their team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional accounting expertise, strong organizational ability, and proven experience supporting senior leadership in a dynamic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accounting

    • Investment accounting
      • Manage investment accounting functions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
      • Oversee The Mortgage Office (TMO) by recording interest payments, creating new loans, and documenting payoffs.
      • Enter new loan data into QuickBooks (QB) and maintain up-to-date financial records.
      • Update accrued interest daily to ensure timely reporting.
      • Reconcile TMO with QB to verify data integrity and financial consistency.
      • Maintain loan files and assignments in an organized and compliant manner.
      • Add new Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) in Portman, upload month-end files, and execute the month-end process.
      • Record mid-month MBS transactions in QB to reflect current activity.
    • Complete daily and weekly bank reconciliations for multiple banks and FHLB accounts.
    • Process tax payments, including quarterly advances and monthly interest withholdings.
    • Update reserves daily following the recording of new revenue.
    • Prepare and execute wire transfers for loan disbursements.
    • At quarter-end, compile financial information for the CPA firm and prepare detailed statement schedules.
  • Compliance

    • Maintain and monitor the reporting schedule, ensuring all deadlines are met.
    • Complete premium tax reporting and ensure timely submission to regulatory agencies.
    • Manage additional reporting requirements as assigned.
    • Regularly update the reporting schedule to include new states or reflect changes to existing state requirements.
  • Processes

    • Maintain and update screen-steps documentation for operational procedures.
    • Add new processes as business needs evolve.
    • Review and refine existing processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Regulations

    • Monitor state regulatory updates and take proactive steps to remain compliant.
    • Revise internal processes to align with new or modified regulations.
    • Communicate regulatory changes to relevant team members promptly.
    • Lead operational adjustments to ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
  • Business Processing

    • Provide operational support as needed across departments.
    • Serve as a reliable backup for key accounting and processing functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent certification preferred.
  • 5 to 10+ years of accounting experience, ideally supporting a CFO in a smaller company environment.
  • Life insurance or Annuity industry experience.
  • Seasoned accounting expertise with a strong command of financial systems and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Manage multiple accounting systems simultaneously.
    • Adapt to changing business and regulatory requirements.
    • Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across departments.
