Job Summary

As the Head of the Tax Department, the Vice President, Tax plays a pivotal role in overseeing all tax services for our Client and its affiliates—both domestic and international. Reporting directly to the CFO, this executive will act as a trusted advisor to the CFO, CEO, and Board of Directors. You will lead, plan, implement, manage, and control all tax-related activities across a decentralized enterprise.

This leadership position involves not only strategic and transactional tax planning to optimize statutory surplus but also the development and oversight of tax reporting policies and procedures. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with federal, foreign, state, and local tax requirements, while fostering strong relationships with auditors, tax authorities, and industry groups to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive profitability by minimizing tax payments, maximizing cash flow, and avoiding penalties, while ensuring full compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Enhance financial performance by delivering accurate tax reporting and advising leadership on current and long-term tax strategies.
  • Identify strategic opportunities and partner with the CEO, CFO, and Business Leaders to implement tax-efficient capital planning ideas.
  • Reduce litigation exposure by ensuring accurate accounting for income taxes under both Statutory Accounting Rules and GAAP, along with establishing effective internal controls.
  • Promote tax awareness by educating management on existing tax rules and anticipated changes, keeping the enterprise well-informed and compliant.
  • Strengthen internal collaboration by maintaining strong working relationships with internal departments to gather accurate and timely tax data.
  • Manage tax audits and disputes by leading examinations, negotiating effectively with tax authorities, and guiding the Tax team on optimal resolution strategies.
  • Lead the Tax Department by mentoring team members, developing technical expertise, and enhancing tax systems and technology infrastructure.
  • Influence industry developments by participating in tax and insurance industry groups to advocate for favorable legislative and regulatory outcomes.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of experience managing the tax function of a Life/Non-life insurance group. Or Life Insurance tax experience within a major accounting firm.
  • Proven track record of advising Executive Management on complex transactions and tax strategies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA or Master's in Taxation (MST) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to guide the Tax Department and interact effectively with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
