Summary

Our Client, the insurance division of a prominent NYC-based asset management firm, is actively seeking a motivated and experienced Director of Human Resources. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this hands-on leader will spearhead all aspects of HR strategy, operations, and compliance.

As the firm continues to grow, the Director will play a pivotal role in shaping its culture, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring operational excellence. The ideal candidate balances strategic vision with practical execution thus driving results across recruitment, compliance, employee relations, benefits, and organizational development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Culture & Strategy
    • Foster an inclusive, performance-oriented culture that aligns with business goals..
    • Regularly evaluate and evolve HR strategies to support organizational growth.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Oversee tracking for required and optional training, certifications, licensures, and assessments—including anti-harassment, safety, and professional qualifications.
    • Monitor and ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
    • Continuously review and update company policies to reflect legal and procedural changes.
  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
    • Manage end-to-end recruitment processes while partnering with hiring managers to define job requirements and attract top-tier candidates.
    • Conduct thorough background checks and verify employment eligibility.
    • Design and implement structured onboarding and employee engagement programs to ensure smooth transitions and long-term retention.
  • Employee Relations & Performance Management
    • Act as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries; escalate complex issues when necessary.
    • Support leadership in handling disciplinary actions, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and leaves of absence.
    • Provide coaching to managers on performance improvement, feedback delivery, and career development.
    • Ensure fair and consistent application of policies across all departments.
  • Training & Development
    • Lead company-wide training initiatives and professional development programs.
    • Promote adoption of HR tools and initiatives that drive engagement and growth.
  • HR Operations
    • Collaborate with Finance to support payroll operations and maintain alignment with compensation policies.
    • Provide timely updates and guidance on regulatory changes and procedural improvements.
    • Utilize HRIS and other technology platforms to manage data and inform decisions.
  • Additional Duties
    • Perform other HR-related tasks that support evolving business needs and strategic initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience; SHRM-CP/SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in managing comprehensive HR operations within dynamic organizations.
  • Proficient in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other HR software platforms.
  • Skilled in data-driven HR strategy, talent management, and workforce planning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence across levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities independently.
  • Known for sound judgment, discretion, and a professional demeanor.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment laws and compliance requirements.
