Job Responsibilities for Actuarial Analyst Operations:
- Technical and Analytical Consultation: Using an in-depth understanding and independent thought, actively provide high-level technical and analytical advice to both internal and external customers.
- Tool Development and Maintenance: Independently design and create spreadsheet or database tools for summarizing, analyzing, and reporting a variety of actuarial-related processes. Additionally, oversee the tool maintenance to ensure it meets business requirements.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and perform in-depth analysis to offer recommendations on calculation issues.
- Project Participation: Proactively participate in projects aimed at improving work efficiencies.
- High-Level Technical Expertise: Utilize a comprehensive understanding of actuarial concepts to ensure proper incorporation of product features, reporting requirements, and calculations into analytical tools. Moreover, adeptly communicate these technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Data Management: Effectively gather, prepare, and review data for reasonableness. Subsequently, generate reports, analyze them, and offer insightful recommendations to key stakeholders.
- Departmental Representation: Act as a department representative in relevant meetings.
- Process Automation: Identify areas where automation can improve efficiency and recommend solutions accordingly.
- Calculation Spreadsheets: Independently create and maintain complex spreadsheets used for validating actuarial or system-generated values.
- Special Projects: Serve as a key partner or lead special projects to support department initiatives, such as data summarization and report generation.
- Planning and Prioritizing: Consistently plan and prioritize work in alignment with team and department objectives. Also, complete projects accurately and on time.
- Stakeholder Relations: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Skills and Experience Requirements for Actuarial Analyst Operations:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Business is preferred.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 4-5 years of practical experience in data analytics. A background in life insurance and/or annuities is a plus.
- Actuarial Background: Although this role is within the actuarial department, an actuarial background is not mandatory but preferred. Note that this role does not support the pursuit of actuarial exams.
- Mathematical and Analytical Skills: Show high-level mathematical ability, accompanied by strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Technical Proficiency: Have strong skills in Visual Basic and macros, Excel, Access, and Word.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Research and Insights: Display an ability to conduct research and offer valuable insights.
- Teamwork and Individual Skills: Possess the ability to work well both in a team and independently.
- Project Management: Show an aptitude for managing projects efficiently.
- Curiosity and Problem-Solving: Exhibit a natural sense of curiosity and robust problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Self-Motivation: Be self-motivated and capable of working effectively under tight deadlines.
- Background Check: A criminal background check is required.
