Job Responsibilities for Accounting Manager, Life Insurance
- Take an active role in reviewing and managing monthly journal entries.
- Examine monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements on a routine basis.
- In addition, perform or oversee monthly & quarterly general ledger account reconciliations and analysis, effectively researching variances for resolution.
- Also, participate in the preparation and evaluation of quarterly and annual statutory statements (Blue Books), which includes schedules and exhibits, ensuring compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP).
- Further, assist in the coordination of GAAP and STAT Audits.
- Also, take responsibility for the creation of State Pages, State Premium Tax Returns, and other state regulatory filings such as Federal/State Income Tax Withheld and Unclaimed Property Filings.
- Next, coordinate the submission of all statutory reports, ensuring deadlines are met consistently.
- On top of this, actively assist with the implementation of new regulatory requirements, the launch of new lines of business and acquisitions, and the onboarding of new reinsurance partners (assumed/ceded).
- Moreover, liaise with state examiners, external auditors, and senior management on a regular basis.
- When required, handle daily cash management as a backup.
- Importantly, stay updated with emerging or newly released or updated NAIC accounting standards.
- Lastly, contribute to the improvement of internal procedures and efficiencies with innovative ideas.
Skills and Experience Requirements for Accounting Manager, Life Insurance
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with concentration in Accounting.
- CPA certified or eligible candidate preferred.
- 12+ years of experience.
- A solid understanding of US statutory insurance/reinsurance accounting and regulatory reporting is a must.
- Essential experience includes the preparation and review of Life Insurance company financial statements on a statutory basis.
- It is preferable, but not essential, to have skills in GAAP basis reporting.
- Demonstrated organizational skills related to work papers, financial statements, and schedules are important.
- Additionally, proficiency in personal computer software, especially MS Office suite with special emphasis on Excel, is key.
- Being a team player with excellent oral and written communication and research skills is critical.
- Furthermore, familiarity with Model Audit Rule compliance is required.
- You need to have demonstrated the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and stay organized.
- A mindset oriented towards analytical thinking and continuous improvement is essential.
- Also, you should have a proven track record in establishing and maintaining healthy internal and external working relationships.
- Importantly, you need a minimum of 7 years of recent experience in Insurance Financial Accounting and Statutory Reporting.
- You should also be able to lead, supervise, train, and motivate accounting team members.
- Lastly, you should be capable of managing coordinated activities with all areas within the organization.
