Accountant Job Responsibilities:
- Investment Accounting:
- Utilizing The Mortgage Office (TMO):
- Regularly record interest payments and create new loans. Accurately record loan payoffs.
- In QuickBooks (QB):
- Enter details for new loans.
- Update accrued interest on a daily basis.
- Ensure TMO and QB are reconciled consistently.
- Loan Maintenance:
- Keep loan files and assignments organized and up-to-date.
- Using Portman Software:
- Add new Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) as required.
- Upload files at the month-end and oversee the month-end process.
- In MBS:
- Record any mid-month transactions in QB.
- Utilizing The Mortgage Office (TMO):
- Banking Activities:
- Conduct daily and weekly reconciliation for multiple banks. Prepare and send wire transfers for loans.
- Tax Duties:
- Make quarterly advance tax payments. Ensure monthly interest withholding is done.
- Revenue Activities:
- Update reserves daily after new revenue recording.
- Quarter-end Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the CPA firm by providing essential data. Prepare financial statement schedules.
Additional Accountant Job Responsibilities:
- Compliance:
- Adhere to a reporting schedule.
- Handle premium tax reporting and other related reporting.
- Stay updated with changes from new or existing states and adjust the schedule accordingly.
- Process Management:
- Consistently maintain screen-steps.
- Add or introduce new processes when necessary. Periodically review and optimize current processes.
- Regulatory Duties:
- Stay updated with state regulatory changes. Modify internal processes to stay compliant.
- Ensure company-wide awareness of these changes.
- Lead operational shifts as a result of these regulatory modifications.
- Business Processing:
- Provide necessary support when called upon. Serve as a reliable backup for processes.
Requirements for Accountant Job:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- CPA designation is an advantage.
- 5 to 10+ years of accounting experience, ideally will have worked for CFO in a small firm.
- Experience in a Life Insurance Company is a plus.
- The candidate should possess seasoned accounting expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to execute the listed job responsibilities effectively.
